We have finally launched The BLR BOMMMER big bass bait.. More on that below.
Well I have as of 1 July broken my shoulder and have been off of BASS fishing since that time.
After my next Dr. Appt I will know if I can start getting back into the “cast” of things and start landing bass again.
In the meantime take a look over at the JDC baits blog where we finally released our BLR BOMMMER Big Bass Bait.

Matt S has already taken a 6# 10 OZ Bass on it this year here in Pennsylvania

Tube baits for bass: Bass Fishing Saturday in PA was nice, I landed a few nice fish on 3 different lures, a finesse jig, a Spinner bait, and a Swim Bait. the weather was nice and warm the sun was shining and little wind.
Sunday a front moved in Temps dropped and the winds kicked up, it was a fishing mess on the water.
I had to slow down and I put on a Cotton Candy colored Tube From Hookerz Tackle and landed a few nice bass.

Below is a review we did of these Tubes as well

Bass have few things to eat, other fish or crawfish make up most of their diet.
Sure our soft plastic baits and other lures seem to be likable by bass but the above it what they eat when we are gone home for the day.
Tonight We picked up a Strike King King Shad Swim Bait
As you can see above out of the package there is already a big of Damage to a Brand new lure above the fin.
This side was against the packaging and the paper was in the way so I was unable to see this before I purchased the Strike King King Shad Swim bait. This will not have any effect on the bait as far as fish catching ability at all but for $20.00 + 6% Tax these flaws should not
be there on a brand new lure.
I am Sure the bass on my local waters will like to hammer the Strike King King Shad Swim Bait.
I will have this out fishing for bass and Will post how we did with it.
** update 17 April 2008
After taking the King Shad out for 2 hours in the morning before work we did land 1 bass, but I did not even get to unlip this bass.
Upon lifting the bass out of the water, the bass shook as they most times do and
This is what was left of the King Shad Swim Bait.

Back to the store I went and got my $19.99 back, I also contacted Strike King. They were very nice and aware of this issue and promptly sent me the new replacements which is a new version of this lure
It has metal pins in the hinge, and they hold up a LOT better then before, seems they were aware of this issue and had already had the new ones out on the market.
After taking these on the water the new ones held up a lot better for me and I landed a load of fish on them

Swim bait hooks Swim-baits are hot and anglers are seeking the perfect hook.
Swim-baits present the same challenges that jerk-bait anglers battled for years;
1. The bait slides down the hook and 2. The front of the lure prevents solid hook-ups.
The perfect hooks are the CopperHead™ and its weighted cousin, the ButtDragger™.
It’s the same hook that better anglers have been using for Toads and Jerk-baits for some time now.
Why do CopperHeads and ButtDraggers, hook more fish than “X-Wide-Gap” hooks?
To really understand this, we must first learn what fish do when they eat; first, the fish turns (competition) and the second thing they do is crush the bait as they dart away. (BIG fish don’t turn, since they needn’t worry about the smaller fish taking a meal away.)
Four things will determine the angle that the hook will travel; the crushing action by the fish, (Compression) the hook shape, the shape of the lure and the direction of the hook-set.
Figure 1 Swim-baits rigged with a FATGap and CopperHead hooks.
In the first photo; the top lure is rigged with the hook-point, “Tex-posed” and the other lure is rigged with the CopperHead.

The second photo illustrates the lures after compression by the fish. Note how the X-Wide-Gap style hook points back towards the plastic while the CopperHead hook point is clearly exposed to hook flesh.

Figure 2 Swimbaits after fish crush the lures.
It’s easy to see the advantage of the bend in the front of the hook instead of the back. The HitchHiker® coil firmly holds the plastic while it increases lure life. Both the CopperHead and ButtDragger hooks allow the angler to pre-rig Swimbaits, before the fishing trip begins.

Finesse Jig Tips, Jig Fishing, Jigs for Bass Tips by Dave White

I get hundreds of emails weekly asking what my favorite all time producer
for bass is, and if I have any little secret baits that I consistently use
as “go to” baits.
Well I have to say there is only ONE that I use on a constant basis and always
land fish on, it is the shrunken million dollar bait.
The Finesse Jig
Jigs are called the million dollar bait for a reason they have made many pros
millions..
I downsize my presentation when needed, and have one of these Finesse Jigs
tied on 1 pole at all times.
The Jigs:
The Jigs I use are made locally and are only sold in 2 shops
They are constructed of living rubber; wire and a light wire hook
the perfect combo for a finesse jig.
They come in brown, black, brown/black, avocado, blue, black/blue, brown/orange,
white, black/yellow.
The trailers I use are Zoom swimming chunks and bearpaws hand poured baits
finesse trailers the bearpaws, are fortified with megastrike.
I try to match the jig color to the trailer.
The wire that holds the skirt onto the hook is in my opinion far superior
to the “rubber band” as it holds up many times longer and you really
don’t have to worry about the skirt coming loose.
They have helped me weigh fish in on MANY tournaments and on many lakes
I will cover how I use these finesse jigs around docks to land fish in this
article
Let me explain the target areas on where to fish the jigs
Rocky shoreline represented by the arrows is a great place to work the jigs.
Cast to shore let set for about 20 seconds then slowly drag the jig about
5 feet, stop for about 30 seconds and repeat.
Edges of weeds and in the weeds are always good
I know there are weeds and grass in this area of the lake
and I fish them heavy, do not be afraid to get a few weeds and some grass
on your jig.
Target areas and key areas by the back of boats, and the edges of the weeds
should be hit heavy and more then one cast per spot use the same retrieve
as above
Cast let sit for 20 seconds move about 5 feet and let the jig rest for 30
seconds.
Docks
Docks and boats hold many fish but a lot of anglers do not hit docks with
jigs properly.
Sometimes you have to get right in there by the boat or dock to produce fish,
Over the ropes and all.
This also calls for setting your drag lightly so a fish wont
break you off when they do bite,
as you are going to be in for a tangled mess and must work the fish out slowly
and with skill to land them.
The target areas are where you will most likely find the bass.
On the docks I just open the bail and let the jig fall straight down until
the line stops,
then close the bail and let the jig rest for about 15 seconds.
Jig it off the bottom with a slight “pop” of the rod tip, and let
sit for 30 seconds
Repeat this technique 3 times in each location before moving onto another
spot.
Do not forget to also hit the dock intersects; these are a key to dock fishing
and an often overlooked spot
Between the boats
This is where the mess and tangles can come into play keep your drag set light
And ease the fish out.

As you can see this is a very effective way to land bass.
When? Anytime of year
Where? Anywhere
I always have a finesse jig and trailer tied on, and fish it from 8 inches
of water to 80 feet of water
So now you know my secret bait and some tips on how to fish them.
